Drizzy Invades the Charts

As if it wasn't enough that Drake's album debuted at number one on the US charts and sold close to 500,000 copies in its first week, he's also dominating the charts with quite a few singles. As a matter of fact, just about HALF of the album landed on the Billboard Charts this week. Check it out:

#5 “Find Your Love”
#32 “Over”
#63 “Miss Me” Ft. Lil Wayne

Debuts:
#49 “Up All Night” Ft. Nicki Minaj
#57 “9AM in Dallas”
#71 “Fireworks,” Ft. Alicia Keys
#87″ Fancy” Ft. T.I. & Swizz Beatz

Toronto, I suggest you stand way up and applaud him.

Drake Teams Up with Jimmy Kimmel

Drake got in tune with Jimmy Brooks last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He and Jimmy performed a Twitter skit and Drake was actually FUNNY *gasp*. Someone really channeled his acting career. I'd love to see him host Saturday Night Live, no lie.
Drake and Nicki Minaj then performed “Over” and “Bedrock”.

Ne-Yo's Got a Baby on the Way

Well, I didn't see this one coming. R&B singer (and former CreamWorld cover boy) is gonna be a daddy! Ne-Yo confirmed that his girlfriend (Monyetta Shaw) is pregnant with their first child. Monyetta is about 4 months pregnant and is due on New Year's Day. There’s no word on the sex of the baby because during the ultrasound the tiny tot curled up in a ball, leading Ne-Yo to joke that his future progeny is “stubborn.” But, he added, “They didn’t get that one from me.”
Guess all those rumours about you know...what team Ne-Yo batted for can be silenced now. Right? Congrats to the happy couple.

We're Still Rockin With You, MJ

It was a year ago today that Michael Jackson was found dead. Since then, the world has not stopped mourning the King of Pop. Today, we take a moment to remember MJ for all his contributions to music and the entertainment industry. Get your glove, your red jacket, and penny loafers and do the Moon Walk one time in remembrance of the greatest entertainer who ever lived. RIP Michael Jackson. You are missed.

Beanie Sigel Goes at Drake's "B!tch Ass"

Despite the Dr. Dre and Timbo appearance all things in hip-hop can't be positive. Of course, why would they be? (Can you sense the sarcasm?). Anyways, it seems that Beanie Sigel is taking shots at Drake now in the middle of taking shots at Jay-Z. Basically, as you'll see in the video, Beanie says something along the lines of "Y'all keep letting that n*gga get on y'all records and pop sh*t, I'ma start coming at y'all little n*ggas. Smack the sh*t outta Drake b*tch a**."
Eeeek, everyone knows that Drake is not one to engage in rap beefs. But I guess Beanie is taking aim at anyone who allows Jay-Z to talk trash on a record. Thoughts?

Kelis Still Milking Nas

First and foremost, I never knew Little Nas had gotten so big! It's hard to tell from this image, but I say he looks more like his momma. Anyways, onto today's edition of Nas and Kelis news. TMZ has obtained legs documents in which Nas concedes that he indeed owes Kelis $300,000 in spousal support. But there's also another problem, Nas is behind on the mortgage for the home in which Kelis is living, to the tune of $52,989.22.
Nas’ lawyer has filed a payment plan with the court, in which the rapper agrees to pay $17,500 up front, and then pretty much double the $7,800 mortgage payment each month to catch up. I hate to say it but: would've been cheaper to keep her.

Beyonce & Jay-Z Club It Up

Last time I blogged about the Carters, I told you that they were out an awful lot lately. I also told you about their bodyguards silly tactics of shining flashlights in the eyes of the paps (teehee). Well, they were out again last night in NYC chilling at the one year anniversary of club Avenue.
Is it just me or is Beyonce looking a little bit thicky thick these days? She rocked a midriff-bearing top and some shredded long cutoffs with heels. Cute look.

Timbo & Dre Surprise High School Students

Don't you love when something really positive happens in hip-hop? I sure do. It gives me a warm feeling in my tummy. I got that warm feeling when I saw that Timbaland and Dr. Dre teamed up yesterday to surprise a group of high school graduates in California. The two made an appearance at a graduation party, compliments of Hewlett Packard and Interscope Records. The two companies are said to be working to improve sound quality through products such as Dre's “Beats By Dre” headphones.
While Dre didn't hit the stage and still claims to be working on "Detox", the Associated Press reports that Timbaland performed several songs including “The Way I Are” and “Say Something” sans Drake who was not in town for the performance.
The promotional event was recorded for a documentary and the students were given free food, and raffled for HP products.
The computer company also agreed to donate $10,000 worth of computer equipment to the school.

Drake Goes Platinum in Canada

We’re still watching for the "Thank Me Later" official first week sales figures, but we can confirm that Drake has been certified Platinum in Canada. That means 100,000. Time will tell if he can surpass Maestro’s impressive 190,000+ units sold for his classic album, "Symphony in Effect". Congrats to Drake. We're watching to see how those American charts are looking as well.

Lady in Red

Rihanna and her beau Matt Kemp were spotted headed to dinner at Phillipe Chow's last night. The two are spending time while RiRi's back home in L.A. for a few days and Matt is in between baseball games. Rihanna looked super cute with her hair clipped back and a red sweater. The red hair has grown on me.

Jay-Z Sued by Private Jet Company

Jay-Z was all smiles yesterday as he performed with Eminem on a NY rooftop, but meanwhile he was being sued by a private jet company is unpaid services to the tune of $250,000. According to TMZ, Jay-z spent 55 hours flying on private jets owned by Air Platinum Holding in 2009 but only paid for 37 hours of the service.

The lawsuit also claims Jay-Z skipped out on some other payments which include:

– 18 hours of flight time at $4,500-per-hour (discounted from $6,000-per-hour) … $81,000
– Catering for 17 domestic flights ($500-per-flight) …. $8,500
– Catering for 4 international flights ($750-per-flight) … $3,000
– International fees … $8,500
– Taxes … $12,285
– Luxury trip to England … $24,200

2 words: Oye vey!

Jay-Z & Eminem's Roof Top Concert

Last week rumors swirled that a secret Jay-Z concert would take place on Monday in New York City. Eventually details were revealed that Jay-Z and special guest Eminem would appear together on The Late Show with David Letterman, performing atop the show's famous marquee on Broadway in Times Square. After word of the free concert leaked, Mayor Mike Bloomberg pulled the plug on the vent, citing the near-riot that greeted Drake's recent outdoor show on New York's waterfront. As a surprise late Monday afternoon, Eminem and Jay-Z suddenly appeared on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater to perform their set for "The Late Show with David Letterman."
Eminem performed "Not Afraid" and Jay-Z hit the stage with "On To The Next One". They then performed their duet "Renegade." The audience, which included New York's own P. Diddy, cheered as David Letterman appeared to thank Em and Jay before the three walked off stage and out of sight. The surprise set served as a preview for the upcoming double-bill shows Eminem and Jay-Z are performing this September at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and Yankee Stadium in The Bronx.

Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz Get Blessings in Africa

Alicia Keys and fiancĂ© Swizz Beatz have fallen in love with South Africa. So it’s appropriate they have had their impending marriage blessed in a traditional Zulu ceremony. The hip-hop couple travelled to the city of Durban and donned Zulu clobber and sang songs under a fig tree, dubbed “the healing tree”. Alicia, who is five months pregnant, also had the couple’s unborn baby blessed. The pair was in South Africa to headline the World Cup kick-off concert in Soweto.

Lauryn Hill Is Baaaack...(We hope)

Aside from Rocking the Bells this summer, Lauryn Hill seems to be getting back into it with other festivals and concerts. She appeared on the main stage at the 2010 Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, CA on and gave the crowd performances of 3 of their L Boogie faves (among others): "Doo Wop (That Thing)", "Turn Your Lights Down Low", and "Ooh La La La". I never thought I would see Lauryn straighten her hair....but times change, people change. I just hope her talent is still the same. Check out the videos & see if she's still got it that thang...

I don't think I stopped smiling once when watching this videos. I love her. Plain and simple.

Lil Wayne Cops Plea In Arizona Case

Lil Wayne might just dodge jail time when he's released from Rikers Island. The Yuma Sun reports that he copped a plea via video feed on Friday morning with the Yuma County Superior Court prosecutors for his drug and weapon charges. Back in January of 2008, Weezy and his entourage were detained at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint where D.E.A. agents confiscated cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun from his tour bus.

Dirty $, Rick Ross & Nicki Minaj: Hello Good Morning

So this is basically the same video as the original with Nicki Minaj's scene added in so she can spit her verse. But being as Nicki Minaj is the "it" girl right, I thought I'd share. Fast forward to around the 1:30 mark to see Ms. Minaj in all her animated glory with an aqua wig. This chick is something else.
